I landed on November 4th without any luggage. My car and guide Yihun were at the airport and drove me to the hotel. Melese met me at the hotel and immediately took me shopping for bag clothes, etc., even negotiating the price for me. Although it was initially planned as a group tour, due to political issues, I received a personally guided tour at the group price. I appreciated the fact that Melese hadn’t canceled the tour. The next day we toured Addis; Yihun and the driver were excellent, and we even enjoyed a traditional Ethiopian lunch with injera, raw meat, BBQ chicken, and local beer. Melese and I flew to Bahar Dar and stayed two nights at a respectable hotel. Our first day included exploring the lake and monasteries. I mentioned my interest in spending time with a local Bahar Dar family, and Melese organized a lunch at his sister's home, complete with coffee, homemade beer, araki, injera, meat, and vegetables. It was simply amazing, and the presence of the children made it feel very welcoming. By organizing this get-together, Melese surpassed all of my expectations. When fighting broke out that day in Lalibela, Melese's help in rescheduling was invaluable. Manuel was my guide in Gondar, where we enjoyed sightseeing and another Ethiopian lunch. I made local friends at the airport; Ethiopians are friendly, and many young people approached me to practice their English. The Lalibela trip was truly memorable; Muchuw was my guide. We visited the famous rock churches and had a great time drinking and eating with locals at an outdoor bar. Innocent children surrounded us with their smiling faces, showing resilience amidst challenging circumstances. I was the only guest at a hotel that had bullet holes in some rooms due to nearby fighting. The next day, I attended church with the locals. Muchuw and I stopped at a shop and bought a proper football for a group of 10 children who were playing without one. Meeting the ringleader at the rock church and giving him the ball is a moment I will never forget. After returning to Addis, I flew to South Africa the next day. I travel because I want to meet people and learn about their lives, aspirations, likes, and dislikes. Melese and his team made sure all my needs were exceeded, and I left Addis wanting to return someday. Friends I made in Ethiopia keep in touch frequently through WhatsApp, and some have agreed to watch over the Lalibela children. I even got another guide to teach the kids to play football. I've traveled everywhere, but this trip stands out as a cherished memory, thanks to Melese and his remarkable team.

It was an excellent tour. Melese is a professional tour guide who took us to various historic places in just four days. He picked us up from the airport in Bahir Dar, and we checked into the hotel before beginning our exploration of the Blue Nile Falls. The next day, we explored Lake Tana, visiting the monasteries and churches of Ura Kidane Mihiret and Azwa Mariam. On the third day, we drove to Gondar, and the next day, we explored the royal enclosure and the city. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip with Melese!

Exceptional value and an exceptional guide ensured everything ran smoothly. This was absolutely the best way to travel, rather than with a group. We were three older, reasonably active female friends, all of whom had lived in Ethiopia before and knew exactly what we wanted to see and do. This tour fit our plans to a "T." Our four-day tour of Lake Tana, monasteries, Gondar, and a day trip to the Simien Mountains was a fantastic introduction to Ethiopia. Our local guide Melese was extremely helpful in accommodating our special requests. He remained friendly and cheerful even when we needed medical assistance! The long drives on roads bustling with people, animals, and potholes were well managed by our excellent and safe van driver! We highly recommend this tour as an introduction to life outside of Addis Ababa.

Mr. Sheriff Melese was a fantastic guide who made all the preparation and implementation of my Ethiopia tours more than excellent. Through his wise selection and order of the program, we were able to see as many spectacular sites as possible in less time. With him, I explored Bahir Dar (Lake Tana, known for its unique monasteries and the stunning Blue Nile Falls). Together we visited Gondar with its impressive castles, Lalibela with its marvelous churches including the famous Saint George Church, and Axum with its many attractions such as its museum and the obelisks. We also saw the historic church of Saint Mary of Zion (Arc of the Covenant), Negash with the Negash Mosque, Mekelle, and of course, Addis Ababa, with its major points of interest. He was always well-planned, organized, yet flexible. Melese is punctual, responsible, dedicated, and very tolerant. He advised me from the start on how to benefit from Ethiopian Airlines and booked domestic routes to save both time and costs. Along the way, he provided fascinating historical backgrounds, as well as unique local and international foods. Exploring Ethiopia with such a professional and friendly guide made me not just love the country and its people, but it also gave me the feeling that I was truly living among them. This unforgettable tour allows you to see how little has changed in the countryside; people still ride donkeys and camels, live in simple wooden and stone houses, and farm the land without modern technology. We wished we had been given an option for higher standard hotels, as some were substandard and better options were evident. A few local guides were challenging to understand, and we grew tired of the continual tipping process without clear guidelines. Perhaps having set guidelines or including tips would improve this aspect.

4.5 Excellent Written on August 30th, 2019 Unfortunately, due to bad weather conditions, the original itinerary changed significantly. Two days in the Simien Mountains were replaced by a historical tour through Gonder town. However, the agency managed this alternative exceptionally well, and I was extremely satisfied with the adapted itinerary and all related services (accommodation, guide, food, transport). I appreciated the local focus of the tour organization. The only recommendation would be to ensure that assigned guides possess a strong command of English, which is crucial for answering visitors' questions, particularly about specific sites.

5.0 Excellent Written on March 12th, 2020 I decided to book a tour in Ethiopia just a few weeks in advance for a holiday, and I am so glad I found Ethio Tours through Tour Radar! Melese organized everything really well and kept in touch to check on arrangements while I was with local guides. The use of knowledgeable local guides is amazing; I learned so much from them. Muchaw in Lalibela was especially great, knowing a lot about the area and the people in the city. It was fantastic to experience a mix of urban and rural Ethiopia in just four days. The hotels were all excellent, clean, and comfortable. The Gondar and Lalibela hotels also boasted great views! Airport transfers were seamless, and all the restaurants for meals were excellent, enhancing the experience with traditional music and dance shows in Addis. I highly recommend this company! My one suggestion is to provide a bit more detail in the daily itinerary. Thank you!
