highly recommend this tour! A complete 10/10. My tour guide tesfay was professional and knowledgeable and as a plus he speaks perfect English, which was helpful as I am a U.S. traveler. Additionally, I am a solo female traveler and I felt 100% safe at all times! The areas we explored were beautiful and the food and coffee experience was a delight. The church was absolutely astonishing and the the owners were extremely flexible and allowed time in the schedule for me to do a mini photo shoot in traditional Ethiopian attire

The quality of guides in Ethiopia is amazing. I had very good experiences with most of my tours. The scenery of the north is just amazing. We've just had a fun, wonderful, well-curated, and stress-free 9-day tour of Ethiopi and that was made possible with the help of Melese.

rkadiusz R23 contributions116 days tour in Ethiopia.I'm a filmmaker. It's my passion. I chose Ethiopia for the trip because it is a culturally rich and beautiful country. I hired a guide with a 4x4 car and a driver for the entire 16-day trip. I was very demanding about this trip. Because I did not want to visit like an ordinary tourist, but to reach a little known places and people whose story I could film. It was my solo journey. My guide's name was Getahun. He lives in the capital of the country and knows all of Ethiopia very well. His driver name is Aju. He has a road map for the whole of Ethiopia in his head. He drives very safely despite the very bad road conditions in Ethiopia. So my adventure began at the Bole airport from where Getahun picked me up and to which he took me on the way back. Everything was organized very well, During the trip I could make changes if I wanted and Getahun was flexible and adapted the rest of the trip to the changes. The hotels were decent and the food in places intended for foreigners, although I could choose local food. In The hotels were decent and the food in places intended for foreigners, although I could choose local food. Importantly, in every place or village Getahun employed a local guide who knew the place very well, thanks to which it was possible to learn deeply about the history of the place and communicate with the tribes in their native language.
It's been a great journey. Filled with beautiful moments, meetings with local people, short interviews with interesting people.
Just a dream come true. So if you want to experience such a fantastic, safe and exciting adventure, contact Getahun. If you have additional questions, just call him or write to him. It will help in everything. I recommend this guide because he takes his job very seriously, and besides, this honest and a good man.
Teddy M5 contributions0Great trek from great tour companyJan 2023 • FriendsZelalem from Ethio Tours coordinated one of the best treks of my life. I spent three nights and four days in the Simien Mountains, enjoying some breathtaking vistas of the canyons and mountains as well as spotting some endemic animals such as the Walia Ibex. Zelalem arranged for a world class guide and scout to accompany me during the days, and two fantastic cooks who catered three-course meals every night; I honestly don't eat this well at home. The package was reasonably priced, and Zelalem was communicative. He provided a detailed itinerary, was easy to reach when I had questions, and handled all miscellaneous tasks such as the entrance fee to the park and getting me a cab to the airport when my trek concluded. I highly recommend Ethio Tours and Zelalem for anyone looking to explore the Simien Mountains with minimal stress!Read less

. MCTravel4 contributions0Perfectly organised and exciting trip throughout EthiopiaNov 2022We spent a total of 17 days in Ethiopia visiting first many highlights in the North including Bahir Dar, Gondar, Simien Mountains and Lalibella region. On our way to the South via the Great Rift Valley, we then visited many tribes and communities in central and South/West Ethiopia with bull jumping of the Hamar people as another amazing highlight of our tour. All in all, this was a most memorable trip to a country so rich in culture but that has been battered first by COVID and then by the two-years civil war during the last couple of years. Nonetheless, everything from arrival to departure was organized to perfection by Milese, the owner of Ethio Tours. Milese is a super reliable, courteous, friendly and knowledgeable person and with Muchaw (Lalibela) and Tes (central/South Ethiopia) he even organized us perhaps some of the best local guides in Ethiopia. We stayed in very good hotels and lodges and enjoyed every day. Our program was packed with so many highlights each day so that we will probably need quite some time to digest it all. With all that being said, Ethio Tours and the Team have clearly earned a five star plus and are highly recommended if you plan to visit this diverse and most interesting country with all its very friendly people.
. Re: Amazing Guide And Tour Organizer ; Northern Ethiopia !11 years agoSave
We wanted to cover a great deal of Ethiopia in six weeks so could only spend a couple of days in Bahir Dar. However our guide, Melese Aychew, ensured we had a very full programme, so he crammed a great deal in. Although certainly not twitchers, we have always had an interest in birds around the world and we discovered that Melese is an excellent birder - he went out of his way to take us to places where he knew unusual species could be found. But also he has very good knowledge of local culture and local history so our trips to the monasteries and the markets were filled with insights. His English is also good. Overall, Melese's an all round top guide. We can thoroughly recommend him.

Count me among those who had an amazing Bahir Dar/Lake Tana experience thanks to Melese.
From the island monasteries to the Saturday livestock market to an authentic lunch of goat tibs, Melese was the perfect independent guide -- knowledgeable, personable and eager to show me an authentic experience.

I landed on November 4th without any luggage. Car and guide Yihun were at airport and drove me to the hotel. Melese met me at the hotel and immediately took me shopping for bag clothes etc. he even negotiated the price for me. It was to be a group tour but due to political problems I got a personally guided tour at the group price. I appreciated the fact that Melese hadn’t cancelled the tour. Next day we toured Addis. Yihun and the driver were excellent and we even had a traditional injera, raw meat, BBQ chicken and local beer lunch. Melese and I flew to Bahar Dar and spent two nights at a decent hotel. First day lake and monasteries. We talked about if there was any chance I could spend time with a local Bahar Dar family Next lunch was at his sisters with coffee home made beer araki injera meat and vegetables. It was simply amazing as the kids were there as well. I really felt at home. By organizing the get together Melese surpassed all of my expectations. Fighting broke out that day in Lalibella and we had to reschedule with Melese help. Manuel was my guide in Gander. Sightseeing and Ethiopian lunch. Made local friends at the airport. Ethiopians are friendly and young people approached me so as to practice their English. Lalibela trip was memorable. Muchuw was my guide. We visited the rock churches met drank and ate with locals at an outdoor bar. Children with smiling innocent faces crowded around and it was amazing. This was innocence in the face of war. I was the Only guest at hotel with bullet holes in some rooms due to fighting near by. Next day attended church with the locals. Muchuw and I stopped at a shop and bought a proper football for a group of 10 children who were playing without a proper ball. Met the ringleader at the rock church. Will never forget the look on his face when we gave him the ball. Got back to Addis and flew to South Africa the next day I travel because I want to meet people and learn about their life, aspirations, likes and dislikes. Melese and his team made sure that all my requirements were exceeded and I left Addis with wanting to go back some day. Friends I made there are in touch frequently thru WhatsApp and some have agreed to watch over the lalibela children. Even got another guide to agree to teach the kids to play football. Have travelled everywhere, but this trip I will fondly remember and cherish thanks to Melese and his team.

It was an excellent tour. Melese is a professional tour guide who took us to several historic places in 4 days. He
picked us from the airport in Bahir Dar. We check in at the hotel and start our tour to the Blue Nile Falls. Next day we explore Lake Tana, visit the monasteries and churches of Ura Kidane Mihiret and Azwa Mariam. On the third day we drove to Gondar and the following day we explore the royal enclosure and the city. We enjoyed our trip with him!

Exceptional value for money and exceptional guide who made sure that everything ran smoothly. Absolutely the best way
to go, rather than with a group...we were three, rather ancient, but still reasonably-active, female friends, all of whom had lived in Ethiopia before and knew what we wanted to see and do. This tour fit our plans to a "T." Thank you, Melese, and our thanks, too, to both of our very expert and able drivers who kept us safe. Ethiopia holds a special place in our hearts...

Our 4 day tour of Lake Tana Monasteries, Gonder and a day trip to the Simien Mountais was a very good introduction to
Ethiopia. Our local guide Melese was extremely helpful in all matters and accommodated us well with our special wishes. He continued to be friendly and cheerful even when we needed medical assistance! Also the long drives on roads filled with people, animals and potholes were well managed by our excellent and safe van driver! We can recommend this tour as an intro to life outside of AA

We had a great time with Melese. He set us up with very knowledgeable local guides and was always nearby if we needed
guidance. The trip was a good mix of touring, exploring on our own, and relaxing. If we asked to visit something,(like local markets) Melese arranged it, and at every airport there was someone there with my name on a card. We had a great journey through the history of Ethiopia thanks to Melese.

My tour with Meleese was one of the most remarkable experiences of my life. I got to see the most beautiful sights,
meet the most wonderful people and gain insights into Ethiopia that I could never have imagined. Meleese was the key to it all. His depth of knowledge where required was great, his choice of local guides was as good and his organizational ability made sure that even occasional bumps were smoothed out. I would recommend Meleese without hesitation.

5.0ExcellentWritten on August 14th, 2019Melese and his team (especially Biruk!) were awesome. They were kind, professional and knowledgeable and made my trip unforgettable. They were real experts on their corner of the world and I learned so much and had a great time doing it. I stayed in great hotels and the food... amazing. Each restaurant better than the next. Ethiopia is one of the most beautiful and surprising countries I have ever visited and I'm so grateful to them for showing it to me. Thank you for a fabulous trip!
5.0ExcellentWritten on January 24th, 2020Great tour covering many important historical sites and the annual religious festival of Timket. Melese of Ethios Tours by Locals was efficient in arranging all the accommodation and guides and drivers. He was kind and considerate. I highly recommend using his tour services for a trip here that is more authentic being small group and hiring local guides.
4.0GoodWritten on January 13th, 2020Take it. It is fifteen days of non stop adventures; castles, museums, churches and tombs. You are immersed in Ethiopian history and culture, traditional dancers, tasty Ethiopian cuisine. This is an unforgettable tour. You will enjoy seeing how very little has changed in the country side, people still ride donkeys, mules, and camels, live in simple wood and stone houses, and farm the land without modern technology Melesse is excellent tour guide, he will tailor the tour to your interest.
3.5GoodWritten on November 12th, 2019Our guide was was very helpful and attentive to details and our safety. We wish we had been given an option for higher standard hotels. Some of them were really substandard and there were clearly better options available. Some of the local guides were really difficult to understand. We got tired of having to tip continually, not knowing how much would be appropriate. Either set guidelines or have those tips included.
4.5ExcellentWritten on August 30th, 2019Unfortunately due to the bad weather conditions, the original itinary changed significantly. Two days in the Simiens mountains were replaced by historical tour through Gonder town. However, the given alternative was managed really well by the agency and I was super satisfied with the adapted itinerary and all services included (accomodation, guide, food, transport).I really liked character of the tour organization-entirely locally-based.I would only point level of English of assigned guides. It is really important to provide a guide with good language level for enabling to answer visitors' questions, especially those related to particular visit spots.
5.0ExcellentWritten on September 30th, 2023Most amazing experience. Highly recommend. The driver, the guides, the food—all welcoming. I will be returning. Ethiopia is forever in my heart.
5.0ExcellentWritten on March 12th, 2020I decided only a few weeks in advance to book a tour in Ethiopia for holiday and I am so glad I found Ethio tours through Tour Radar! Melese organised everything really well and was in communication to check on things when I was with local guides. The use of local guides is amazing and I learned so much from them. Muchaw in Lalibela was especially great and he knew a lot about the area and just about everyone in the city. It was great to see a mix of city and countryside in just four days. The hotels were all excellent, clean and comfortable. Gondar and Lalibela hotels also had great views! Airport transfers worked well. All of the restaurants for lunch and dinner were very good and I enjoyed the traditional music and dance show in Addis. I would definitely recommend this company! My one recommendation is to put a little more detail in the daily itinerary. Thank you!
